Madison

Madison is the capitol of Wisconsin and its population counts little over 200,000. It is surrounded by four lakes and the center of the city including the beautiful capitol lie on an isthmus. The University of Wisconsin-Madison has a very pretty campus on the lake and is one of the largest universities in the US with more than 40,000 students including many international students (>20%).

Wisonsin (WI) is a state in the Midwest and also nicknamed ‘The Dairy State’ because of its many dairy farms. It is located West of Lake Michigan, East of Minnesota, North of Illinois, and South of Lake Superior. Its biggest city is Milwaukee, which is famous for its beer (quantity and not quality, I might add). A car ride from Madison will bring you to Milwaukee in about one hour and to Chicago in about 2.5 hours.

If you visit Wisconsin, you can admire beautiful nature and wildlife including bald eagles, wolves, bears, and loons. There are many opportunities for canoeing and camping. Other highlights include the amazing colors during the Indian summer, for example in Door County, and the casinos and waterparks in the Wisconsin Dells. The continental climate brings long hot summers and long cold winters, and when I write cold I really do mean cold. Madison is a great place to live at and was recently voted the No.1 place to live in the US by Money Magazine, which you are even told by huge signs when you arrive at the airport.

Some of the most prominant people from Wisconsin include the architect Frank Lloyd Wright, the 5 time gold medalist winner at Olympics Eric Haydn (ice skating), the environmentalist John Muir ??, the bands Garbage and Violent Femmes, Harrison Ford during his short college times,  and ... .
